Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

Design and oversee the design of physical and electrical aspects, including protection and controls systems for transmission level voltages (69kV to 500kV) and Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) and Master Service Agreement (MSA) projects, utilizing knowledge of engineering codes and company policies. Perform complex research on protection & control and physical design philosophy and develop recommendations for equipment and materials selection. Oversee collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work. Prepare complex engineering calculations including short circuit ratings, voltage drop, lightning protection (sphere methodology) for major equipment and substation design following standard methods and principles. Develop and manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Apply electrical engineering techniques and problem-solving methodology. Assist in developing, maintaining and updating engineering standards, and provide technical guidance to other professionals regarding projects and disciplines. Serve as an electrical technical specialist and provide consultation and guidance to project teams and clients in a particular practice area. Responsible for overseeing EPC and MSA projects with power utilities projects. Act as Owner’s Consultant on wind and solar renewable projects to review and approve the design, specification, and contract documents on behalf of the clients. Supervise up to 10 direct Electrical Engineer reports. No hire/fire authority. 80% of job is technical, 20% of job is managing, coaching, and mentoring direct reports.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or closely related field and 8 years of related experience, or in the alternative, a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or closely related field and 6 years of related experience. Professional Engineering (P.E.) license required. Technical experience must include: HV substation designs (69kV-500kV), protection and control design, physical design, schematics drawings, general electrical arrangement, grounding system analysis, short circuit analysis, lightning protection, power distribution analysis, arch flash study, Motor Control Centers (480V-600V), switchgears (4.2kV - 13.8kV), wiring diagrams, vendor drawings, power transformers, HV circuit breakers, HV disconnects, and surge arrestors. Experience must also include working on EPC and MSA projects along with field experience. Must have experience working with collector system substation and its interconnect with renewable source. Must have experience with leading a team of multidisciplinary teams of engineers and overseeing budget, schedule, and scope. Must have experience in coaching, mentoring and career development for less experienced engineers along with supervisory responsibility. Software experience must include: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, and Access), Aspen, Skype, ETAP, and AutoCAD. Travel to client sites within the United States required 10% of the time. Must have good written and verbal communications skills in English.
