Duties

Responsible for design and procurement of major electrical equipment for a combined cycle power plant. Responsible for overall 6.9kV switchgear design, 6.9kV motor control centers, low voltage 480V switchgear, low voltage 480V motor control centers, 480V panelboards. Responsible for sizing generator step up transformer for steam turbine generator unit using IEEE Standard C57.12.00 and C57.91, C57.116. Responsible for calculating steam turbine generator breaker (GCB) short circuit and continuous current rating using IEC/IEEE 62271-37.013 Standard. Responsible for sizing diesel generator. Responsible for developing protection design of all major electrical equipment in the power plant to meet client and industry standards. Responsible for sizing lead acid batteries and uninterruptable power supply for providing 125VDC power and 120VAC power for plant essential loads. Perform insulation coordination study, load flow, short circuit and motor starting analysis. Responsible for developing generator breaker schematics, medium voltage and low voltage breaker schematics, relay panel schematics for Generator Step Up Transformers, and Unit Auxiliary Transformers. Developing one lines and three lines for medium voltage and low voltage systems. Phasing Diagram for the Plant. Responsible for procurement of following electrical equipment – medium voltage switchgear, medium voltage motor control centers, low voltage switchgear, low voltage motor control centers, generator circuit breakers, power transformers, cable bus systems, battery and UPS equipment, and protective relay panels. Develop specifications and reviewed vendor submittals to verify the compliance of equipment to the project requirements and industry standards such as IEEE and NEC. Responsible for selection and sizing of cables in duct bank using SKM and ETAP software. Perform duct bank thermal analysis in SKM to review thermal temperature rise in duct bank cables. Review short circuit withstand lengths for medium voltage and low voltage power cables and sizing medium voltage power, low voltage power, control, and instrument cables. Manage aux electric contracts to ensure timely delivery of aux electric equipment. Conduct field investigations and provide solutions to the electrical issues at critical infrastructures. Oversee Electrical Engineers. No hire/fire authority. Requirements

Master’s in Electrical Engineering or related, and 6 years of related experience, or, alternatively, Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related, and 8 years of related experience. PE license is required. Must have experience with load flow, Short Circuit, and Arc Flash in Etap and SKM. Must have experience with Lead Acid Battery Sizing, Diesel Generator Sizing, uninterruptable power supply sizing, low voltage power, medium voltage power, control and instrument cable sizing, Generator Breaker sizing, and Generator Step-up Transformer sizing. Must have experience with developing One-lines diagrams including Overall One-line, Medium Voltage One-lines, and Low Voltage One-lines, Schematics & Wiring diagrams, and developing Protection & Relaying design for overall Combined Cycle Power Plant. Must have experience with National Electric Code. National travel required (10%). Telecommuting is permissible within a reasonable commuting distance from the Overland Park, KS office. Must have good written and verbal communications skills in English.
